Why?

You may be a friend or family member, or, you may be an acquaintance that I haven’t talked to in a while or someone I just don’t know as well.

Or maybe you’re someone I don’t know who’s heard about the website and is now reading this blog.

Or maybe the site has taken off and you’re looking back to read my first ever blog.

Or maybe your me, looking back to reminisce on a journey that started in Florida sometime in the early 1990s.

Either way, I am hoping to answer the question posed in the title: “Why?”

Why spend money and start a website?

Why start a podcast?

Why start blogging?

Why are you doing this?

Well, here’s why:

I am 32 years old. That’s weird to say. Because, as many of you, I do not feel like I had expected to feel as an “adult”. I sit here, typing on a computer that I built, in a house I bought, with a wife and two kids. And when I take a step back, and I think back to the early 90s and trying to get my Hot Wheels and Matchbox Cars to go fast enough to complete the loop on the yellow track.

It feels like just days ago.

Just days ago I was playing youth hockey, just days ago I was in high school, then college. This year: 2019, marks my ten-year anniversary of graduating college and I am amazed at the things I have accomplished. But, I am also realizing that time seems to pass by faster and faster the older we get. Measured by fiscal years, or quarterly reviews or projects demanded by the machine that is corporate America.

As a young kid it seemed that things took so long, and that people in their 30s and 40s were boring and people in their 60s were ancient.

Needless to say perception changes.

So why? I could continue to go on, but I do not want to belabor the point. It’s because I want to stop putting things off.

“When I get older, I will write a book”

“When I get older, I will really start to get back into shape”

“When I get older, I will start a blog, get back into photography, or try to do a podcast”

For me. The time is now. There’s no excuse, because there’s always time… you just have to make it.

So in short, the answer to “Why?”, is “why the hell not?”, because "If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And when I am for myself, what am 'I'? And if not now, when?" ~ Hillel the Elder

Stay tuned for my second blog: “What?”, which will hopefully share some more light as to what the hell is going on in Mike Urgo’s head.
